Listening Post by Mark Hansen & Ben Rubin portrays comments and chat from internet chat rooms in real time. Hundreds of LEDS transcribe sentences and comments whilst speakers repeat extracts in a robotic voice. The installation is cold and faceless, expressions becoming neutralised in the vast emptiness of internet communication. As a spectator you begin to feel very small and vunerable in the face of this lost expression matrix. This project is important to my research for Twitter Theatre as it applies user expressions online to physical environments. However i am pleased at the differences. I want to add sentiment and make all these expressions mean something more than throwaway comments that are lost to the vast empty void of web 2.0.
